Before you order a new pop-top canvas, these are the questions buyers ask us most. Short answers from our workshop in Latvia.
1. How much does it cost to replace a pop-top canvas?
A new Toptrail canvas costs about €430–490 for a VW T3 / T25 (Westfalia, Reimo, SCA), €485–540 for a VW T4 / EuroVan (Weekender, California, Winnebago, Reimo, SCA 112) and €590–670 for a Ford Nugget, plus flat €20 FedEx shipping. Most owners fit it themselves in an afternoon, so there is no labour cost; or you can bring your camper van to our workshop and we fit it. That is far cheaper than a new roof, and the canvas is made to order for your exact roof.
2. Can you replace a pop-top canvas?
Yes. The canvas can be changed with the roof still on the van, on a Westfalia, Reimo or SCA roof alike. You remove the old canvas from the roof frame and the lower channel, then fit the new one top edge first. A new filling profile (keder) is worth adding if the old rubber is hard or cracked.
3. Which roof do I have?
The canvas must match your roof, not just your van model.
- VW T4: measure the bottom edge of the front roof panel, corner to corner. About 118–119 cm = Weekender canvas; about 124–125 cm = California canvas. Long-wheelbase campers (Winnebago / EVC) need the T4 Winnebago canvas. More: Weekender vs California.

4. Does the year of my T4 matter?
No. Our T4 Weekender and T4 California canvases fit all years from 1990 to 2003, including vans built before and after the gas strut change around 1998. What matters is the roof type (Weekender or California) and the wheelbase, not the year.
5. What fabric do you use?
We use polyester Oxford fabric. It is water-resistant from the start, keeps its shape, and does not rot like old cotton canvases. Every canvas has fine mosquito mesh in the windows (black, grey or white) and zippered window covers, and you can choose from 14 colours. If you often camp in long rainy periods, an extra coat of waterproofing spray on the outside adds protection.
6. 2 windows, 3 windows or panoramic?
The 3-window version adds a front window for more light and air, and it fits the same roof as the 2-window version. We also make custom canvases. We don't recommend a very large panoramic front opening: in our experience it is impractical in everyday use.
7. Can I fit it myself, or can you fit it?
Most owners fit the new canvas themselves in an afternoon, ideally with a helper. Follow our step-by-step guides for the VW T4, the VW T3 and the Ford Nugget.

8. How long does delivery take, and are there duties?
Every canvas is made to order in 2–7 working days, then FedEx delivers in 3–7 working days. Shipping is a flat €20. Inside the EU there are no duties. For the USA, UK and Canada, duties are calculated and paid at checkout, so there is nothing extra to pay on delivery.
